How
to Setup Outlook Express to Use IMAP
Please notice
that the following instructions are customized for CSLA users to setup their
e-mail accounts on Microsoft
Outlook Express. The instructions below are also very similar to those
for Winnt.
Step-by-Step
Setup Instructions for first time users:
- Launch
Outlook Express
The Internet
Connection Wizard window will appear if you have never used Outlook
Express before.
- If the
Internet Connection Wizard window appears, answer the questions the
Wizard asks you.
- If the
Internet Connection Wizard window DOES NOT appear, follow the following
steps else skip to step 5:
a. Go
to File and find Identities
b. Move your
mouse over to Add New Identity to set up your e-mail account.
c. Type in a user friendly name for Identity
name (e.g. jenny) and press the return key.
d. Click
Yes to switch to your account now.
e. Answer
the questions the Wizard asks you.
- When
requested to set up your mail server under E-mail Server Names, click
on the down arrow next to the select box and click on IMAP for your incoming
mail server.
Warning: Once you
convert your e-mail to IMAP, you cannot use Scholar's Mail to check your mail
anymore.
- For Incoming
mail (POP3 or IMAP) server and Outgoing mail (SMTP) server type in the name of
your server (e.g. neptune.calstatela.edu) and click
Next.
- Type in your
CSLA NIS User ID for Account name (e.g. jchang7).
- Unclick
Remember password and click Next. IMPORTANT
- Click
Finish.
- You can quit
the Wizard by clicking on Cancel now else continue answering the
questions the Wizard asks you.
- When prompted
to view a list of available folders now, click
Yes.
- Select the
folder(s) you would like to view and click on
Show.
- Click
Ok.
- If the
Dial-up Connection Window appears, click Work Offline
.
- To view your
previous messages:
a.
Locate the folder with your server's name (e.g. neptune.calstatela.edu) on
the left-hand side. b. Expand the
folder by clicking on the + sign next to the folder name and a list of sub
folders will appear. c. Click on the
name of the sub folders to view your previous
messages.
